Last Thursday, for those of you who don’t know, was International Women’s Day (last week was also International Pie Week and it was pointed out that it didn’t seem fair that pies got a whole week, but then society is gradually changing so no doubt that will too in the years to come!)
“International Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women’s Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first March 8 IWD gathering supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Prior to this the Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom’s Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women equality. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organisation specific. Make IWD your day! – everyday!”
For our part, having visited the Yorkshire Ladies Links ‘Be Inspired’ Conference last year as a delegate, we knew we wanted to attend again this year as I came away buzzing in 2017 from the positive, encouraging atmosphere and all the motivated women I’d met and heard speaking.
This year we returned as exhibitors as we wanted to showcase some of our flowers to promote our corporate and event side of Erica Berry Flowers. We create displays for events throughout Yorkshire and beyond and we took this message with us to Wetherby, through the most atrocious weather conditions, along with several of our designs made in the colours of International Women’s Day, to show how we can incorporate a companies branding into our designs.
It was a fantatic day, despite the weather. Melanie Malcolm and her team put on another truly inspiring day and I got to meet so many lovey, interesting people from all types of business background, some of whom we hope to do business with in the future, others who simply were enjoying our beautiful stand. I must say, it is a joy to promote Erica Berry Flowers and I wish I’d been able to record some of the comments people were making as they admired Erica’s designs.
We hope to exhibit again next year and I would highly advise people to attend if they can as it is such a brilliant event and you will come away feeling uplifted and with new contacts.
