I found this post on the British Florist Association website and just had to share it with you all as the festival season is very much upon us and we didn’t want anyone to miss out on this fantastic fashion accessory.
“With the festival season just starting we felt we ought to visit the ideal trend for men with bushy beards; You’ve got it – colourful flowers entwined with facial hair is this summer’s blossoming fashion statement.
Big beards on men are now become quite the norm, it’s all about whiskers nowadays as fashionable men in their twenties and thirties have been sporting them for the last couple of years – even during the heatwave of summer.
But if the bushy beard was ever about masculinity that has been quashed and instead adorned with flower power, and why not!
This wacky trend that sees hipsters weave flowers into their facial hair has been around for the last couple of summers. It emerged across boho America.
We all know the John Phillips’ song “San Francisco” song the line “If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair”, inspired thousands of young people from all over the world to travel to San Francisco, wearing flowers in their hair and now, apparently, in their beards. Yes, men in Brooklyn, Portland and San Francisco adorned their faces with blossoms, seemingly for the sole purpose of artistic portraits that have been taking over the social media with the hashtag #flowerbeards.
However, it seems that the beard garden is not so new. Some images of flower beards date back to 1977, during the aftermath of the hippie movement. At that time, flower circlets and crowns were all the rage. We’ve seen simple flower circlets in many accessory stores in the last few years and most certainly a feature that comes back every festival season. Flower crowns are another trend that’s grown considerably – gone are the days when it would take a wedding for flowers to be worn in hair.
Wherever the trend came from or whether we’ll start seeing flower beards walking the streets in Britain is another matter, however if you’re planning on taking a break to a festival this summer you could always use it as the ultimate ice-breaker offering to decorate beards with flowers – creating blossoming beards that will be a wonder to behold!
