A coral and blue green wedding, how we met the brief.

A coral and blue green wedding, how we met the brief.

Last year we had the pleasure of creating the bridal party flowers for Laura and Paul’s central Leeds wedding.

Laura knew she wanted an all round hand tied bouquet and specified bright coral coloured flowers, to include old English style roses, coral peonies with blue green echeveria and eucalyptus to contrast.  The stems were to be covered in ribbon to match the echeveria.  The bridesmaids needed smaller versions of the wedding bouquet.  Their dresses were to be patterned, two coral and two mint.  The groom’s button hole was to feature the echeveria and coral berries.  We were certainly looking forward to seeing the overall effect.

We needed to source the correct roses to provide the desired colour and style.

There are so many varieties of roses available now from all over the world so we have a huge selection to work from and can really tailor make a design, within reason, to your requests.

To meet the brief as closely as possible, we chose a beautiful ‘old style’ rose called Free Spirit as the feature rose for the bouquets.  This rose has a wonderful open shape with petals which range from pink around the outside to a vibrant corally orange in the middle.  We also added another slightly smaller rose called ‘miss piggy’ which has a more compact form but very similar colouring to complement the ‘free spirit’ and to add variation within the bouquets.

The other feature flower was the opulent ‘coral charm’ peony which is a huge flower when it opens, its simply stunning and adds real drama to anything it graces.  Of course, there were then the blue grey echeveria, which are so fashionable now and brilliant for giving an unusual shape and texture within a bouquet.

To finish the bright additions we included coral celosia, which is another different structure, looking a bit like ‘brain coral’ from a coral reef.  Despite its rigid shape celosia has a soft texture and this variety, a really bright coral colour.  The coral hypericum berries and soft grey eucalyptus gave yet another texture and more softness to the bouquets and brought all the elements together.  They were finished off with a steely bluey green, grey ribbon which toned perfectly with the flowers.

We loved the striking combination and boldness of these flowers and the vibrancy of the whole effect. I’m sure you’ll agree they all look amazing together.

Congratulations again Laura and Paul.  Thank you for allowing us to create such beautiful flowers for you and to Meagan Sarah Photography for the beautiful images.  www.meagansarahphoto.co.uk
